Past, Present and Future

Since 1981, Linda Cosme has determined, reviewed, adjudicated, affirmed, litigated, or analyzed more than 30,000 Social Security disability claims at every major stage of the process.

Linda began her career as a Disability Examiner with Disability Determination Services, where she made disability determinations at the initial and reconsideration levels. She later handled Continuing Disability Review cases and served as a Quality Assurance Specialist, reviewing disability cases for program accuracy, consistency, and integrity.

​

After law school, Linda joined the Social Security Administration’s Disability Quality Branch, the office responsible for returning deficient cases to Disability Determination Services for correction.

​

She later served in the Office of General Counsel, where she defended the Commissioner of Social Security in federal District Courts and Courts of Appeals. That experience gave her a deep understanding of SSA policies, litigation positions, and agency strategies.

Linda also worked with the Appeals Council until her retirement in 2018. During that time, she helped develop predictive models and clustering algorithms used to assign, review, and process disability cases at the Office of Hearings Operations and the Appeals Council.

​

Linda’s experience is unusual because it combines program knowledge, policy expertise, legal advocacy, federal litigation, and data analytics from both the DDS and SSA agencies and claimant perspectives. This allows her to quickly evaluate disability cases, identify the issues that matter most, and provide informed assessments of the likelihood of success.

Today, Linda uses her deep knowledge of the inner workings of the Social Security Administration and Disability Determination Services to help firms understand case pipelines, associated risks, and to maximize efficiencies to deliver the strongest path forward for their clients.
